- Abstract
- Mapping on MediaWiki, meaning the embedding of, and interaction with, rich and dynamic maps in articles, can be done via the Maps extension. Maps supports multiple mapping services such as OpenLayers, Google Maps and OpenStreetMap. It has build in support for geocoding, displaying maps, displaying markers, adding pop-ups, and more. Maps allows extensive customization of your maps, either per map, or via a general setting affecting all maps on your wiki. Another extension, Semantic Maps, allows you to aggregate and display structured information on such maps, by using the Semantic MediaWiki engine. This is done by adding a Geographical Coordinates datatype to Semantic MediaWiki. This presentation will introduce you to both extensions and go over their capabilities, how to use them, and possible future work.
